This lamp was a good replacement for a Home Depot special, motion detecting lamp. Disappointed the Home Depot lamp didn’t last long - but the exposure to the elements fried the motion detector mechanism. This lamp seems well built with a protected-from-the-elements motion sensor. I actually liked there wasn’t external controls (which I suspect did in the HD lamp by allowing rain water in through the control panel).Install was straight forward, although I did have to adjust the white mounting adapter on the house to accept the lamps mounting plate. Use of a dremel tool on the closed cell foam mount made this possible. The lamp’s opening at the bottom and large size allowed use of a decorative lamp bulb that provides strong light and look so good through the lamp’s glass. Use of clear caulk around the lamp mount and some molding clay on the white mount adapter (see photo) finished the look. I may paint the mounting clay to match the plate later, but its fine for now.Operation is easy as flipping the light switch. Flipping the switch on and off twice puts it into a mode where it stays off unless it detects motion, then turns on for a few minutes. I like this best vs. the default dim on then bright with motion. I set it once and its been operating in OFF-ON-OFF mode consistently once the sun sets.Durability seems strong as I installed this at the start of a mid-Atlantic winter and its worked with through rain, cold and wind. Given its location, the lamp is exposed to the elements, but has had no issues so far. Overall a good buy that was better than anything I saw at Home Depot or Lowe’s.
